Privacy policy
Last updated 14 October 2026
This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use this website, contact us or visit our restaurant, why we collect it and what your rights are. We've kept it as plain as we can.
Who we are
Thai Orchid Canterbury runs the Thai Orchid restaurant at Unit 3A, The Riverside, Kingsmead Road, Canterbury CT1 1BN. We are the data controller for the personal information described here, which means we decide how and why it's used.
What we collect
- When you contact us: your name, email address, phone number if you give it, your message and, if you tick the box, your permission to receive our news and offers by email.
- Allergies and dietary needs: anything you tell us about allergies, intolerances or dietary requirements so we can serve you safely.
- Bookings and orders: table bookings are taken through Dojo, collection orders through Kurve and deliveries through Deliveroo. They collect your details under their own privacy policies and pass us what we need, such as your name, party size, time and order.
- Your cookie choice: a random consent ID, what you chose, when, and the page you were on. No IP address, name or email is stored with it.
- Technical information: like any website, our hosting providers process your IP address, browser and device details to deliver pages, keep the site secure and block bots.
- How you use the site: only if you accept analytics or marketing cookies. See our cookie policy.
We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13.
How we use it and why
The law requires a lawful basis for each use. Ours are:
| What we do | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Reply to your enquiry and arrange bookings, parties and special requests | Legitimate interests, or steps before a contract |
| Record allergy or dietary information you give us | Your explicit consent, which you can withdraw at any time |
| Send news and offers by email, only if you opted in | Consent. Every email has an unsubscribe link |
| Measure and improve the website and our adverts, only if you accept those cookies | Consent |
| Keep a record of your cookie choice | Legal obligation (to show we asked for consent properly) |
| Keep the website working and secure | Legitimate interests |
| Keep accounts and meet other legal duties | Legal obligation |
We don't use your information for automated decision-making or profiling that affects you in a significant way.
Who we share it with
We only share what each provider needs to do its job for us:
- Wix: website hosting, contact form, customer records and consent records.
- Cloudflare: security and bot protection for the website, on behalf of Wix.
- Dojo, Kurve and Deliveroo: bookings, collection orders and delivery.
- Google and Meta: only if you accept analytics or marketing cookies.
- Our accountants, insurers and legal advisers, and the authorities where the law requires it.
We never sell your information.
Data outside the UK
Some providers, including Wix, Google and Meta, store or access data outside the UK. Where they do, the transfer is protected by UK adequacy regulations (including the UK-US Data Bridge) or the International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum.
How long we keep it
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Enquiries and messages | Up to 24 months after our last contact with you |
| Allergy and dietary notes | Only as long as needed for your visit or booking |
| Marketing permissions | Until you unsubscribe or ask us to stop |

| Financial and accounting records | 6 years, as the law requires |
Keeping it safe
The website runs over an encrypted connection, form submissions and consent records are stored in our Wix account with access limited to the people who need it, and our providers are bound by contracts to protect your information.
